The Dance Curriculum
The dances offered in a Social Ballroom Foundation curriculum are: Swing, Nightclub Hustle, Salsa, Rumba, Cha-Cha, East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Merengue, Samba, Mambo, Bolero, Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Viennese Waltz, and Quickstep.
A Private lesson is meant to address the students' individual needs. Up to 90% of the time can be spent acquiring the students' individual, technical, and essential movement skills, as well as variety in their dancing. Private lessons can be done as a single person or as a couple. This is the fast-track to learning and doing.
A Group class is typically defined as more than 2 people in a class. 90% of the class time will be spent learning and practicing the step only. Large group classes are socially challenging and fun. The students get a chance to change partners which helps to develop leading and following skills. Group classes can be great practice time and a lot of fun!
Social Practice Parties
This is when our beautiful dance facility turns into a Dance Club. The students come and enjoy a supervised night of social dancing with their dance friends and instructors. The parties are a great way to meet, mingle, network, and of course to practice the moves that you have been working on in class!
Coaching Days
A coaching session (special to Paramount students) is when we bring a certifiable world class instructor and Dancesport champion in to help give our valued students and staff the benefit of a "third eye" look over. You never know what famous dance celebrity might be heading our way!
Around the Town Club
One benefit to being a member of the Paramount Ballroom is participating in our periodic dance field trips. This is when we go out dancing for the night as a group to one of the local hot spots for a night of fun and social dancing.
Competition Team
If our owner Mr. Lazo is not judging, he loves to travel with the staff and students of our Pro-Am competition team as a group to one of the many competitive events that are held throughout the state and country. You may not believe that you are "competition material", however, once our students try this exciting outlet, they are hooked. A person can perform or compete in their own age group and dance level. This means that you do not have to be more than a beginner to enjoy this exciting feature of Ballroom dancing called "Dancesport". Some of the venues in the coming year will be New York, Las Vegas, Miami, Orlando, and more!
The Social Foundation and Bronze Level
The Social Foundation is characterized by a dancer who has the ability to get up on the floor (5-8 steps) in up to six of his favorite Ballroom dances. You will not have the time to thoroughly develop style or certain skills, but you will have overcome the fear of not knowing what to do. It is an eight-week program if you practice and visit us at least one time per week.
This Social Foundation is the first part in a four part series of levels that are also called "The Bronze Level". A "Bronze" dancer who has completed Bronze I, II, III, and IV is considered to be the complete Social Dancer and capable of taking there dancing into any chosen arena.. Every eight to ten weeks, we do a Medal checkout and examination for those who are interested in charting and confirming their progress.
he next challenge would be the Silver Level, and then Gold.
